your can add sound filters with premier, but they arent all that good.
Or Cool Edit Pro.

To make it evil perhaps you could apply the reverse filter (plays backwards) - take the volume down a little.
Then mix that with the original track slowed down a touch, with some echo or reverb.
If you mix these two together with the backward track muttering in the background, it might sound pretty evil [img]smile.gif[/img]

I don't know how you can find editing such a drag, Chance, it's just as fun as the rest of it. I never knew of someone who didn't enjoy it. A good edit is an un-noticable one!

Editing is a art, which i have 100% respect for, unfortunatly though when it comes to editing the onlly kind of artist I 'am is a p*ss artist,

i just dont have the knack, simple as that , ive spent about a hundred hours so far for around ten minutes of a promo,

still got more to do and i ve got to get it done by the weekend , its infuriating, irritating, and some other words ending in ing,

My place is behind the monitor shouting at people, not shouting at a monitor with no one to hear..

To have a rant,

three things that bug me,

1. You know exactly what you want to do , you try and do it, and for some reason it doesnt quite work, so you expand that bit there, shorten that bit, move that sound fx here, and it still doesnt quite work, so you start tweaking tyring to add a bit of reverb here and and still doesnt work, so you keep tweaking next thing you know 5 hours have gone and you got a passable 3 second bit, its gay.

2. I know i want to do somethig this way or that , and have no idea or the resources to hand to do it, ie the voice changer stuff or i want to do some flashy ident but have no idea how, and you sepnd hours searching on the web only to end up browsing ****

3. Im cutting together a promo of a incomplete film, I have twenty hours of footage the good bulk of the entire film,but i have yet to shoot some of the key scenes, some of which are bloody major keys as they introduce characters or trigger key events, so im trying to cut together a comprehensible story from all this rushes, and i get to a point where all is going well when i suddenyl realise that i can't continue this bit as its a dead end or have to come up with something,

for example, in the script rico kills himself right at the begining , which sets up his "undead" character for the rest of the film, as he's in some pretty key scenes, so i need to showing him dying , but i havent shot that scene yet, so i spend x hourds going through footage , looking for soemthing which i can tweak into his death, oh there;s that shot of him falling of his bar stool nope that ownt work, so you keep looking and then you hit on something but you then spend hours cutting dialouge form here, missing out lip actions here, taking this scene and that scene out of context and creating a hybrid scene, then you start getting confused as when you watch through it your minds in the ok there ok here, what happens next, so you look at the script for that hybrid bit and of course its not there, so you end up banging your head on the desk and SCREAMING.

And i have to get this promo ready for the weekend as a possibly golden opportunity to actual start getting somewhere in this industry ,but all depends on getting it ready , so no pressure. cos on top that ive got to get three of my feature film scripts up to scratch all my saturday, and ive got to write a HTML datavase for a client, and some of my rushes were messede up in the transfer, ive got a damm annoying clock on them , which means ive got to waste tommorow getting them done, which only gives' me three days

On a shoot i can shout at people to get me coffe , with this editing lark i can only shout at the girlfriend which is more agro that what it is worth

Wow, I think you should drop the shouting at everyone/thing and just try and relax and enjoy it! Yes, editing does get complicated sometimes but you need patience.

I would have thought that, as a director, you're well aware that it may take several attempts to get whatever you're trying to achive right.

Oh, and on a more personal level, you sound like a bossy director - so why should your editing software work for you? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Anyway, different packages to different things. I don't recall reading what you're editing it on. Providing you wrote down the timecodes, if you're using Premiere then batch capturing is a doddle. It takes time to do things, and if they don't work, try something different, a different effect, a different cut etc. Not everything is possible to us desktop editors, but a lot of other options sure are.

Editing on premiere, which i like and dont like, one thing i definetly dont ike is you have to render everythign before you can see your fades and stuff.

Im editing DVCAM footage transfered to Mini DV for cost saving and speed, so no time code . idealy my ideal situation would of been to go through all twenty hours in sequence and upload what i wanted anywya from the takes regardless of whether there needed in the promo or not , then i could pick and choose, from that unfortunalty i dont have the disk space to do that. im down to my last 10 gig on one drive and twenty on the other,

I really dont like editing at all.

"Goldwave" is a decent and %*FREE*% (technically its "shareware" but there is no expiration period or limit of features) audio editing program. They have a lot of effects/slicing stuff you might be able to use to edit it. I've used it quite a bit in making soundtracks, editing sound, etc.

for what its worth, thats why its got to be a good thing for directors to try editing at least once in their career, I mean Im hardly an expert, but my experience of trying to direct and edit has been very illuminating.

Basically if you dont get the shot when you are on set then it doesnt exsist, and cant be used.

There are some cool tricks that you can use and learn whilst editing though, and if you dont have the footage you'd like (as in a perfect world) then it does force you to be quite creative - Sometimes for the best too.

Pity the editor who works for a poor director [img]smile.gif[/img]

Knowing about the edit process makes you a better director in the long run.
